Welcome to La Cala de Mijas and Torrenueva Playa
La Cala de Mijas is an old fishing village is situated in Mijas Costa, the Heart of the Costa del Sol. This village still retains its unique charm nestled on the sandy beaches. It is only a short distance from Fuengirola and Marbella.
Torrenueva is at the end of this lovely beach of La Cala de Mijas (El Bombo beach), It has the most incredible views over the La Cala bay, just before Miraflores and Riviera del Sol.
Along these golden beaches you will find “Chiringuitos” (beach bars) that serve excellent fresh fish as well as fresh local produce. There are many water sport activities including the hire of Jet skis, The Banana, snorkeling, diving, and sailing. The hiring of these are located next to the apartments at Las Golondrinas close to El Bombo Beach.
Each Wednesday and Saturday there is a “Mercadillo” on the feria ground (under the bridge of the main N340). Here you will be able to buy fresh fruit and vegetables grown by farmers in the nearby villages. Additionally you can buy clothes, souvenir gifts and handbags! If you feel you want to brighten up your holiday home then you can buy some fresh flowers or plants.
Every July around the 25th for a period of 5 days there is a “Feria” the annual fair. This starts from the late afternoon for children and into the early/late hours of the night. There is lively music, flamenco, dancing, fair rides as well as great food and atmosphere. Spain is known to have many “Holidays” so it is not uncommon to witness a festival or event taking place.

La Cala Fair - Market site, 15 to 31July Santiago - 25 July, procession and fireworks in La Cala De Mijas Flamenco - Every Wednesday & Thursday in July and August Mijas Pueblo International Food Festival - 6 - 13 November, various restaurants, La Cala.
There are also some great sporting locations including a Tennis club and Gym at Club del Sol in Calahonda, Lawn Bowels at Miraflores Country Club, Horse racing at the Hippodromo, Horse riding lessons in La Cala and some fabulous Golf Courses including La Cala Golf, El Chaparral, La Noria and Calanova to name a few. All these are only 5 minutes away from the apartments. There are some lovely restaurants that cater for all from the daily menu del dia to the plush and luxury at El Oceano Hotel and Restaurant or the Mijas Playa in La Cala. Another exceptional restaurant is an Italian/International Cuisine, La Plaza located in Riviera del Sol. This is an ideal place to round off your day. |
